Can artificial intelligence become God?

 

 

First of all, I am a Christian, which means I believe in God. When I was a university student, I read many Western philosophy books. Western philosophy often uses logical reasoning to persuade people, which contrasts somewhat with Eastern philosophy. Generally, Eastern philosophers speak in profound sentences, which can be difficult to interpret and understand. For this reason, there are often many interpretations of these texts.

Due to this ambiguity, Eastern cultures tend to favor context based conversation. As a result, Eastern people often use indirect and symbolic expressions in conversation today. Sometimes, this type of speech can lead to misunderstandings, but context based conversation also fosters a sense of belonging because only those who have interacted for a long time can fully understand each other’s expressions.

I believe this communication style shapes the differences between Eastern and Western perspectives. Eastern cultures often still emphasize collectivism, while Western cultures are relatively more individualistic. Many cultural differences arise from these characteristics. For instance, beliefs about God differ; Eastern traditions often embrace multiple gods in a harmonious structure, while Western cultures tend to center around one exclusive God.

 

Returning to the topic: can AI become a god? From an Eastern perspective, this seems possible. In Eastern traditions, the concept of a god can be similar to that of a superhuman figure. AI has already reached a "superhuman" level in certain areas, such as the game of Go (Baduk), where many professional players now learn from AI systems like AlphaGo. Moreover, AI has recently surpassed human experts in fields such as medicine, law, and science.

 

However, AI is still far from matching human abilities in all areas, which means it cannot yet become the “Western” concept of God. In the Bible, God is omnipotent and omniscient, qualities that AI does not possess. Although it seems impossible now, perhaps one day AI could achieve a god-like status. In fact, it’s possible that AI already became a kind of “god” long ago in certain domains.
